HTF funds green rental housing in Carpinteria

HTF made a $430,000 loan commitment to Peoples’ Self-Help Housing towards the construction and permanent financing of the Casa de Las Flores in Carpinteria. This 100% affordable multi-family project will provide 43 units of new rental housing to replace a dilapidated camper park located on Via Real in Carpinteria. The new development will include Mediterranean-style buildings arranged around garden courts with play areas, as well as a 4,300 sq. ft. community center with common open space, administrative offices, an assembly room and kitchen, classroom and computer lab, health screening and counseling rooms and laundry facilities. The new units will be energy efficient, achieving 17.5% over Title 24 and certified at a GreenPoint rating of 100. The project borders an agricultural operation that processes and ships cut flowers and several other agricultural employers are in the surrounding area. Nearby services and amenities include grocery shopping, public bus transportation, parks, a medical clinic, offices and public schools.
